Gorehounds Unite!

The More Blood The Better

Vanished Acres Synopsis:

Jerod Grot's once-prosperous farm is now a twisted shadow of its former self. With his land overrun by crows and a scarecrow with a mind of its own, Jerod is forced to seek solace in the fading happy memories of his past. Each day is as the next.

But today, Jerod finds a lost love letter from his deceased wife. The letter is not to him, but rather to his scarecrow.

With his world turned upside down, Jerod is met with many more memories - dark and unpleasant ones which he chose to ignore. As he confronts the scarecrow about the letter, these buried secrets begin to surface, shattering the uneasy peace that once existed on this haunted land, and forcing him to face his past as it truly was.

Vanished Acres Review:

Originally when I had contacted the filmmakers about reviewing their film I got a message from (I believe) The director Adam Bolt stating that he didnt think his film really fell into the genre or category  we deal with on this site. I assured him if it was a good indie film it would fit perfectly into what we are looking to do with this site. With a little more prodding he agreed to send the film to me to take a look at.

While this film isn't horror in the general sense of the word....It still has a very fantasy styled world with horrific elements in it. I will let everyone know that this film does not contain buckets of gore....what it does contain is originality and atmosphere.

The title of the film won't make sense to most until you finally see the finished film as alot of stuff is answered once you see the film. The most notable thing to me that became immediatly apparent was the visual flair and style this film posseses. It's like looking at a demented illustration in a classic childrens book. This is probably the closest thing to art i have ever seen in this genre. The best way I can describe this film is visually haunting and stimulating at the same time. I have to mention that it has a veryu japanese feel and flow to it as well.

In fact the whole feel of the film has a very grim fairy tales feel to it and I will go out on a limb and say this is the most beautiful films I have ever viewed. Every frame is perfect and maintains the feel of the film. The great acting in the film just adds to the film in spades as this was the perfect casting for this film and it feels like everyone involved in the project totally "got" the film and what the director was trying to do.
